South Gables is considered the area South of South Dixie Highway (US1) and it goes all the way to the Bay. On the North side is Coconut Grove and on the South Pinecrest & South Miami. This area is composed of newer larger homes on larger lots with more contemporary design. By the same token this area also has some of the most expensive homes in Coral Gables and some of the most exclusive communities like Cocoplum, Gables Estates, Gables by the Sea, etc.

Some of these communities have very exclusive Home Owner associations and Country Clubs with stringent background checks and requiring approval prior to executing a purchase contract. Those communities are some of the waterfront communities that offer the greatest privacy and exclusivity. Those homes are also located in deep waterways with access for large yachts. 

The neighborhoods in South Gables are more suburban and often don't have sidewalks but have many amenities nearby. Coconut Grove, Downtown South Miami, Dadeland and Miracle Mile are just minutes away. The most exclusive and expensive properties are found near the water and the more modest price homes near US1.
