North Gables is the area North of South Dixie Highway (US-1) to SW 8th Street and bounded by Red Road (SW 57 Avenue) and Douglas Road (SW 37 Avenue). There is also a portion just North of SW 8th Street that follows Ponce de Leon to about SW 1 Street.
Coral Gables was one of the first planned developments in the US. George Merrick had the idea of developing a unique mediterrenean style community in the tropic. The first phase of the development was the Northern quadrant nearest SW 8th and this is the area where you find the highest concentration of old Spanish style homes.
North Gables has many nearby amenities including Miracle Mile with all its fine shops and restaurants; attractions like Venetian Pool, Merrick House and many other historical buildings. North Gables is also home to the Biltmore Hotel and golf course and the exclusive Riviera Country Club and Golf course. There are many parks and walk and bike paths. The lush and landscape and canopy roads ad to the character of North Gables.
